The Detour is the first midrange in MVP’s James Conrad Line of discs and is an understable disc with lots of glide. It is well suited for long, controlled hyzerflips or sweeping turnover shots. It boasts a rounded edge that allows the disc to sit more securely in the hand, which has been noted to help with control and comfort. MVP also markets the Detour as a good disc for beginners, as its understability leads to it flying extremely straight when thrown softer. James Conrad, being almost exclusively a backhand player, wanted a disc in his lineup that could be used for the turnover lines and hyzerflips that have come to be associated with his play style. The result was the Detour, which was fully released in 2024 after a limited release via 2023 Gyropalooza boxes. Quickly after its release, the Detour became very popular among amateurs due to its extremely straight flight and high glide. Some variations of the 2023 Gyropalooza Detours and 2024 Eclipse Halloween Detours are collectible.

Try Discs adds up reviews from six disc golf stores, so you see what players think across stores, not just at one shop. Reviews are great for spotting proven, popular discs. Take the details with a grain of salt, though: runs, plastics and skill level all change how a disc flies, so your experience may vary.
