Northman

4.6(53)
Distance Driver
The Northman is a speed-10 Westside driver rated 10/5/-1/2. A little turn and a modest fade give it a straight flight with a gentle finish, so it suits players who want an easy, glidy driver more than a stable one. Players who need a headwind or forehand disc should look elsewhere. Westside calls it one of its original drivers and says its bigger feel in the hand helps it float: fast arms get a straight flight with a small, stable finish, while slower arms get a stable flight with plenty of hang time. Players on Disc Golf Course Review found it more understable than its numbers suggest; one praised how it holds hyzer-flip and anhyzer lines, and one reported early VIP runs as more stable than later ones. Westside's early Finnish site called it the company's first production disc. The PDGA approved it on 3 December 2009 (09-29), that site recorded the VIP launch on 1 March 2010 and Tournament on 15 May 2011, and a VIP Air version was approved in 2014. Its Finnish name is Pohjan Poika, and Westside links the stamp to Ilmarinen, the smith of the Kalevala. Tim Keith has a Team Series run. On our comparison table its nearest matches are the Innova SL and the Discmania CD.

4.653 reviews from 4 stores

Try Discs adds up reviews from six disc golf stores, so you see what players think across stores, not just at one shop. Reviews are great for spotting proven, popular discs. Take the details with a grain of salt, though: runs, plastics and skill level all change how a disc flies, so your experience may vary.
