Envy
more_horiz
The lid-like Envy is intended for putting and throwing, but it has
become the industry standard for throwing putters, especially after
James Conrad threw the "Holy Shot" in the 2021 World Championships. Its
high parting line makes it slightly overstable and
torque-resistant, which has helped secure its status as one of the
most popular throwing putters. Many MVP-sponsored players utilize
the Envy in some capacity, with James Conrad and Eagle McMahon both
having special releases of the disc.
While most people
discovered the Envy (and maybe even disc golf, for that matter) in 2021
via Conrad's aforementioned "Holy Shot," it was actually the first Axiom
disc to hit the market. Approved and released in 2014, the Envy
launched MVP's newest venture, Axiom Discs. Axiom was marketed as more
colorful discs designed in a more traditional way, utilizing feel over
computed data a la MVP. Whether or not they were actually designed this
way is up in the air, but the popularity of the brand cannot be
understated, in large part due to the Envy.
Envys have been
produced in basically every plastic available at Axiom. In terms of
collectibility, early runs of Envys are often highly coveted,
particularly Eclipse runs. Watermelon Envys and
McMahon "Rebirth" Envys can fetch quite a high price from collectors, as well as OTB releases.
